Curb Appeal Awards
It is the goal of the Curb Appeal Award program to identify and formally recognize those property owners that demonstrate community pride and maintain their property as a beacon of higher standards to which other property owners may aspire.
A committee will review nominations solicited year-round from the public in which a commercial property will be selected on a quarterly basis. Properties shall be evaluated and reviewed on criteria such as, but not limited to, general upkeep, landscape design, façade improvement, signage, and lighting. Properties will not be given additional consideration based on multiple submissions. A submission will be considered for one year from receipt. Nominations may be submitted by completing the form or by contacting the Fernandina Beach Main Street office at (904)624-7147.

Amelia Island History
Fernandina Beach is set on Amelia Island, which has been inhabited for centuries, starting with the Timucua Native Americans who settled around 1000 A.D. The flags of eight nations have flown over the island since 1562 – the only United States location with this diverse history. Those nations were France, Spain, Great Britain, Spain (again), the Patriots of Amelia Island, the Green Cross of Florida, Mexico, the Confederate States of America and the United States. David Levy Yulee, known as the Father of the Florida Railroad, designed downtown Fernandina Beach to make it “the Manhattan of the South.” Today his statue sits in front of the historic Train Depot, now the Amelia Island Welcome Center. This seaport village was once a stomping ground for pirates, Gilded Age millionaires, bootleggers, shrimpers and other colorful characters. Today, the Fernandina Beach National Historic District spans more than 50 blocks and is rich with eclectic shops, a diverse mix of restaurants and lovingly preserved architecture. Buildings in the Downtown Historic District are striking examples of the most prominent architectural styles of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
